GRP Flooring

GRP flooring (short for glass-reinforced plastic) is the type of product that many of us take for granted when we are out and about, or in our place of work. But, believe us, when we say it is everywhere – from railway station stairs and platforms to retail stairs, factory floors and public walkways.

COBAGRiP is available in UV stabilised Sheet (either in standard or light duty grades) as well as Stair Treads or Stair Nosing. It can be used indoors or outdoors, and with a silicon carbide gritted surface has excellent anti-slip properties in wet, icy or even oily conditions.

COBAGRiP is either glued or screwed to the floor surface for hassle-free installation. This makes it a great choice for floor/walkway/stairway refurbishment projects.

General Contact Adhesive

Contact Adhesive, a.k.a. Contact Cement is a neoprene rubber adhesive that makes for a permanent, quick and flexible bond. Contact cement is the go-to adhesive.

This adhesive is only suitable for areas that see no sunlight whatsoever. When using this glue, it is important to ensure that both surfaces have glue applied to them. You then need to wait for about 20 min to get tacky before applying the two surfaces to each other. Each application will be unique, and so the amount of glue being used will differ from product to product and application to application.

Two-Part Epoxy Glue

Two-component epoxy adhesives feature unique versatility in application and performance. This adhesive consists of a resin and a hardener.

Once this glue dries, you will not be able to clean it up or even remove it.  So very special precautions need to be taken when this glue is used. This type of glue is ideal for areas of direct sunlight.

Silicone

Silicone itself is made up of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and silicon. Note that the ingredient contained within silicone is spelt differently. The ingredient silicon comes from silica which is derived from sand.

Depending on the products and color, this to be used on any small gaps around the area to provide a professional finish to the installation.

Super Glue

The main ingredient in super glue is cyanoacrylate, C5H5NO2, for the chemistry buffs out there. Cyanoacrylate is an acrylic resin that cures almost instantly.

If all the instructions are followed on the installation of these products, one should not need Super Glue as it tends to make the material more brittle over time.

GRP sheets are available in black, grey and yellow, while the GRP stair treads (fully covering the stair area) and stair nosing (covering just the edge of the stair) have yellow DDA compliant borders for awareness and visibility.

• Silicon carbide ‘gritted’ top surface with exceptional underfoot grip properties.
• Slip-Tested to R13 in accordance with DIN 51130:2010.
• Pendulum Slip-Tested in line with BS 7976-2:2002 achieving PTV 79 in dry conditions and PTV 73 in wet conditions.
• Flame retardant.
• Chemical resistant.

GRP flooring is very robust, and can withstand the punishment of heavy-duty wear and tear. It is also UV stabilised, and therefore weatherproof, making it suitable for extreme climatic conditions. Solid surface GRP Flooring is lighter than traditional GRP Gratings.
